The St. Joseph Middle School Program provides transition from the basic preparation of the elementary years to the challenge of senior high school. The cornerstone of the program is the total education of each individual in light of the school's philosophy and mission. St. Joseph School Overview of Academic/Social Goals The program enhances the growth of each student in all basic areas, dependent upon his/her talents and abilities. All courses are taught by specialized staff who are qualified to enhance the curriculum and learning process for our students. The program strengthens students' academic readiness for more challenging college preparatory courses on the senior high level, expands curricular opportunities that are limited in many schools, and ultimately allows students to qualify for more advanced senior high courses. The introduction of choice at this level allows a student further exploration in preparation for the more sophisticated years of high school. 1. The program includes homogeneous grouping (i.e. honors, average, and remedial) and heterogeneous groupings. a. Mathematics requires grouping to identify high ability and those in need of remediation. b. Heterogeneous groups are scheduled for other subject areas so that students will be exposed to a variety of educational experiences with their peers. 2. Core offerings: religion, mathematics, social studies, science, geography, language arts/reading, and foreign language classes which include French and Spanish. 3. Extended offerings include computer science, physical education, art, health, band, and music. 4. Grade eight students are permitted advanced placement in mathematics, science, and foreign language courses. In the St. Joseph Middle School, students are encouraged to become well-rounded individuals by participating not only in academics but in extra-curricular activities as well. There is a variety of sports and clubs available to all of our unique students. Sports and Clubs | Sports |
